Projects under construction
Lake Erie seawall repair project.
Dunkirk, NY.
This property owner experienced severe shore line erosion during the months of November and December, 2022. A storm water pipe discharged through the bulkhead but after receiving significant blows, the pipe broke as well as the wall around the pipe. With a large hole in the wall and a broken storm water pipe discharging behind the wall, nearly 350 ton of material was lost.
After authorization and permits were granted by the township and the NYSDEC, work to make the necessary repairs began. Due to the condition of this bulkhead, the time of year and the need for engineered plans, temporary repairs were made to preserve the property until more permanent repairs could be made.
In December of 2023, Muldowney Bros. began work to encapsulate the 40' section of heavily damaged seawall. With little to no beach to work with, we utilized some large concrete blocking that had been peeled from the wall by wave action, heavy plastic sheeting and 1 cubic yard sand bags to create a dry work area to perform the repairs. The best option for this scenario was to pour a new vertical concrete wall, 40'W x 9'H, in front of the existing seawall to fix the immediate issue. This option will allow the client to continue the encapsulation of the remaining 82' at a later date.
